Top Sites in the North of Mauritius
The southern region of Mauritius is known for its stunning natural beauty and diverse attractions. Here are some of the top sites in the South of the island:
Le Morne Brabant: This UNESCO World Heritage site offers panoramic views of the surrounding lagoon. The peak can be reached by a 3-4 hour hike from the base. There is also a stunning beach at the base of the mountain.
Chamarel 7-Coloured Earth: Located near the village of Chamarel, this natural phenomenon showcases sand dunes of different vibrant colors, including shades of red, brown, and purple. Chamarel is also home to an amazing rumerie, and the famous Chamarel Falls, which can be seen from the 7-Coloured Earth site.
Black River Gorges National Park: The largest National park on the island, is home to a variety of wildlife, as well as several popular hiking trails.
Gris Gris & La Roche Qui Pleure: These unique rock formations are located along the “wild south coast” if the island, and are popular spots for panoramic photography.
La Vanille Nature Park: Home to various animal species, including giant Aldabra tortoises, crocodiles, monkeys, and various reptiles, this aprk is a popular place to learn about the flora and fauna of Mauritius.
Blue Bay Marine Park: Located in the far southwest of the island, near the airport, Blue Bay Marine Park is arguably the best snorkelling location on the island. Make sure to take a Glass Bottom Boat ride into the Marine Park.
Rochester Falls: Rochester Falls is a picturesque waterfall set amidst rock formations. The falls themselves cascade into natural pools, which are swimable.
